Limited Immunity

Chapter 1

The Limited Immunity ranch was situated on 10,000 acres in the mountains of eastern North Carolina. It maintained almost 200 horses and offered trail rides, boarding facilities, secluded cabins for rent and total privacy and discretion to anyone that sought it. The sole owner was Christian Davis, a 28 year old forensic scientist turned business man. Chris stood five foot nine and had a muscular frame covering his 170 pound body. He wore his hair in a high and tight style and frequently wore Oakley sunglasses over his pale blue eyes.

The ranch was currently closed to the public. Its grand opening was set for 6 weeks away and Chris and the rest of his staff, a skeleton crew at the moment were tooling around and putting the final touches on the events. Chris walked up to his right hand man, the 21 year old stable manager Marcus.

"Marcus, anything big happening that I need to know about?" Chris asked with a slight smile

"No we are good at the moment. The distributors have all contacted us and we are actually ahead of schedule. We could open to the public tomorrow if you wanted. Well except for the fact that we are short on staff that is." Marcus replied smiling at Chris.

"I know I know. We will hire more. How many you think? We currently have 3 for the business office, 10 trail bosses, 5 for the cafe, 10 cabin support staff and 10 people to muck and run around and do our bidding." Chris said winking evilly.

"Well if you ever have them show up then I think we will be fine. Take today for instance, we have you, me, Gabby and Manuel to take care of the 200 horses and business portions. Personally I would like to get home and love my man up tonight, however we are probably going to be here until ungodly hours and I will be too tired to have any fun." Marcus said pouting.

Chris immediately pulled out his cell phone and called Gabby on the phone.

"Gabby, Get me some muckers and support staff in for today. Start a schedule up for everyone and I want to have a meeting with everyone tomorrow. Can you do that?" Marcus said into the phone.

"Excellent, thanks for the hard work. We couldn't run this place without you." Chris said hanging up.

"Your man should be happy tonight Marcus, more staff is coming in." Chris said smiling wide.

"I am sure he will, now if you will excuse me I am heading back to the office to get the rest of everything set up." Marcus said turning away.

"I am headed to look out at the property. I will be on the walkie-talkie or my cell if you need me." Chris said heading toward a F350 pick up truck.

The rest of this day went normally. Chris went and viewed his property and Marcus had the staff taking care of the animals. The business was set to run smoothly and Marcus had even coordinated a dry run for the next week using local boy scouts to go on the trail rides. There was a list of 50 people waiting for the private stables to become available. There had been calls from music and movie stars publishing agencies for use of the private cabins. Marcus came up with a whole new list of things he needed to accomplish before the ranch was going to be fully operational. Everyone was headed home by 6:30 pm with all of the horses tucked in for the night, the office cleaned and everyone done for the day.

Chris left the office building, climbed into his Nissan pick up truck and headed toward the main road off the ranch. When he got to the main road, he turned left and traveled for one mile until his ran into his driveway. Marcus had already pulled his RX-8 into the driveway and was unloading his gear as Chris arrived at home.

"Hey Hun, have a good day at work?" Marcus asked smiling.

"Yes it was a good day. How was yours?" Chris said getting his things out of his truck

"Not too bad. I figure Italian for dinner is good yes?"

"Yeah that sounds great. I have that class I am going to try and take the final test on before dinner if that is OK."

"Yeah, we should be ready to eat by about 7:30 if that's OK."

"Sounds great to me, I'm gonna shower before I do much of anything."

"Me too, can I join you?" Marcus asked with a sly grin on his face.

"Sure, guess dinner and the test are going to be delayed."

A short while later, both men emerged from the shower and went to their respective areas to do what they had planned. They were both sitting down for dinner watching the television by 8 pm. Marcus did the dishes while Chris went over the books for the horse ranch. After their evening coffee both men went to bed and were fast asleep by 11pm.

The next few days went by in much the same manner. The horse ranch was running smoothly before the boy scouts were scheduled to come, and all of the deliveries were made on time and on schedule. Several inquiries about the cabins were made by various music groups, and Chris had decided to have a recording studio built on some of the back acreage with a few more cabins to try and entice the bands to come out and record there. Construction would start on the Limited Immunity Recording Studio the day after the trial run with the scouts. It was expected to be completed within one week of the grand opening of the ranch. Chris and Marcus had both decided that there was enough going on at the ranch and they would not pursue any more business ventures at the moment.

Tomorrow the scouts would be here for the largest test run to date. If this went successful, then Limited Immunity would be up and running. Marcus would move in the private owners in one week, and 3 weeks after tomorrow, the grand opening.
